Learning carousels

Learning carousels are the newer UI for delivering learning within the Janison Academy. The Academy can run with or without the carousel plugin enabled. Without the carousel, learners see the default dashboard.

When the learning carousel is enabled, several dependencies need to be configured.

To include carousel items in the UI, configure the available options:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Learning Carousel.
  2. Select the edit pencil next to Carousel Settings.

  3. Select the required carousel options:

    • Business Recommended
    • Continue Learning
    • New Learning
    • Peer Recommended
    • Recommendations
    • My List (on by default and can't be removed)

  4. Select Save.

User settings

To let learners configure their learning preferences, allow access to Preferences on the learner profile page:

  1. Navigate to Settings > User Settings.
  2. Expand the Details section.
  3. Enable My Preferences.
  4. Select Save Settings.

When the carousel plugin is enabled, edit the main menu to include the settings for the learning carousel. If you don't have access to the menu option, contact Janison Support or your account manager.

The Endpoint for settings is /learningcarousel/settings/index?menu=Settings.

Changes in the user interface

Activating the learning carousel plugin changes the UI:

  • The Learn tile is replaced with the carousels.

    • Peer Recommended and Business Recommended (previously on the Learn page) are now included in the carousel.
    • Change My Interests is now included in the user profile.

  • The New Learning tile is now included in the carousel.

  • Recommendations are generated based on your learning history.

Settings

Administrators can configure the following settings.

Learning Carousel (Settings > Learning Carousel) — controls which carousel options are shown (Business Recommended, Continue Learning, New Learning, Peer Recommended, Recommendations).

User Settings (Settings > User Settings) — controls whether My Preferences appears on the learner profile.

Social Learning Settings (Settings > Social Learning Settings) — the Learning Carousel Panel URL field controls text shown at the top of the carousel page, and Content Side Panel URL controls the left-hand menu option available in carousel mode.
