Position object interaction

A position object interaction item requires a test-taker to drag one or more images onto another larger image to position them in the correct location.

Create a position object interaction item

  1. Navigate to Author > Items.

  2. Select Add Test Item from the Actions drop-down.

  3. Complete the New Test Item form.

    • Type — Select position object interaction.
    • Item stem — Enter the item stem.
    • Orientation — Select the required orientation.
    • Scoring Type — The options are Correct/Incorrect and Per distractor.
  4. Select the image icon to upload an image via the resources manager.

  5. Select the edit icon at the top right to edit the image.

Add drop areas to the image

  1. Use the shape tool to draw shapes around the drop areas by clicking and then dragging to the required size.

    Use the following fields to adjust the shapes:

    • Width and Height — Increase to make the shape larger.
    • Top and Left — These coordinates update when you move the shape. You can also move a shape by clicking and dragging it.

Destination

  1. The Destination field refers to the drop zones you created on the image using the shapes. Enter a label for each destination zone in the Text field.

    The text labels in the Destination field are not visible to test-takers.

  1. In the Source section, enter the responses.

    • Image — Upload images into the Image fields.
    • Max Choices — Enter the maximum number of matches for each item in the Max Choices fields. If you set match max to 1, the test-taker can only drag the image from the bay of selections to one drop area. The image will no longer display in the top bay once the match max number is reached. If set to 2, the image can be placed twice.
    • Correct — Select the correct options and save.

Correct/Incorrect

With this scoring type, the test-taker must select all correct responses to get the item correct.

Per distractor

With this scoring type, additional scoring options will become available to the item author, allowing them to add a score for each response.

Per distractor scoring settings

  • Min Score — The minimum score the system will assign.
  • Max Score — The maximum score the system will assign.
  • Default Value — The value used if the row does not have an entry in the Score column.
